Call for Papers – PGVIM International Symposium 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the years, we have asked what happens when musical worlds meet, clash, and transform one another. This year, we turn inward \u2014 to the quieter forces that make such encounters, and all deep engagement with music, possible at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At its heart, music is a practice of questions. To listen deeply is already to be drawn into expectation and surprise \u2014 into the pull of what comes next, and the meaning that stirs when sound moves differently than we anticipated. It is what leads us to look at the music we have inherited and ask how it came to be, and what it still has left to say. This same curiosity is what drives us to follow a musical idea into territory it has never reached. And it is what compels us to discover in another person a capacity for expression they did not know they carried. Whatever our relationship to music \u2014 however we encounter it, question it, create it, or transmit it \u2014 curiosity is what keeps that first impulse alive long enough to matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But curiosity alone does not complete the act. There comes a point in every meaningful engagement with music where understanding must give way to sound \u2014 where it is no longer enough to know, and something more personal is required. Analysis must become interpretation. Knowledge must become expression. And what we have inherited, questioned, and imagined must finally be offered \u2014 to another person, to an audience, to the world \u2014 in a form that can be heard and felt . We invite contributions from around the globe that explore these qualities across the full breadth of musical life \u2014 in the way music is made and imagined, in the way it is shared and received, in the way it is passed between people, and in the questions we bring to the music we have inherited \u2014 and to the music still waiting to be made<\/p>\n\n\n\n
