ABSTRACT<\/strong><\/p>\n

This artistic research project looks at how the sonic characters of the ocean, wind and thunder can be depicted through music and sound combining acoustic instruments, soundscapes and live electronic processing. The composer studies and develops methods for creating mixing together sounds imitating the environments of various oceanic landscapes. Each of the composition explore the musicality of seascape using different aesthetics and compositional concepts, imitating the sonic gestures of sea waves, or suing the spatial positioning of musician to mirror the echoes and organic contours found within the environment. The pieces in the portfolio include: \u201cGlissando to the Sea\u201d for trombone solo and live electronics, \u201cThe Tale of Susano-O\u201d for Ensemble (Sinfonietta) combining standard notation with graphic scores, and \u201cDeeper, Under the Sea\u201d for Flute, Voice, and Electronics and video art.<\/p>\n

Glissando to the Sea mimics the sounds of the sea using only one trombone sound processed and enlarged through enlarge looping techniques and various reverberation. The Tale of Susano-O, combines seascapes and the elements of variability of the sea such as the sea breeze, thunder storm, tornado and giant waves with the Japanese folk tale of Susano-O: the god of thunder storm who causes sea disasters. The last piece Deeper, Under the Sea, uses the Flute and speaking to convey the variation of the sea texture and rhythms through sonic explorations which convey the various oceanic dimensions including under sounds.<\/p>\n
