The opening ceremony of the exhibition “The Octave Zero: 80 Years of Bruce Gaston – The Melody of the Sponge” was held on 6 March 2026 at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). The exhibition commemorates the 80th anniversary of Bruce Gaston, a pioneering artist whose work has played a significant role in shaping contemporary music in Thailand.

The exhibition invites visitors to explore the life, ideas, and creative journey of Bruce Gaston, whose artistic vision helped foster a meaningful dialogue between Thai musical traditions and international contemporary music practices, resulting in a distinctive and influential musical language.
The opening event featured a series of activities including a lecture, poetry readings, and musical performances inspired by Gaston’s work. These activities highlighted the artistic impact and continuing inspiration of his contributions to contemporary music.
The exhibition also brings together a wide range of archival materials that reveal the creative process behind his work, including photographs, musical scores, original manuscripts, musical instruments, and personal notes documenting his artistic ideas and reflections.
More than a retrospective of past achievements, the exhibition encourages audiences to reflect on the future of Thai contemporary music through the intellectual and artistic legacy left by Bruce Gaston.
“The Octave Zero: 80 Years of Bruce Gaston – The Melody of the Sponge” is open to the public until 15 March 2026 at the Studio, 4th Floor of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.
